Police have been checking taxi vehicles this week for defects.

These checks took place in Truro, Falmouth, Camborne and Redruth as part of an ongoing vehicle safety and licensing initiative.

In total, 10 vehicles were halted for various issues - five of which were suspended from trading.

Details were provided by Devon and Cornwall Police, a spokesperson added:

"While the vast majority of taxi drivers were found to be operating with road worthy vehicles and were fully compliant, the checks to date have resulted in a total of 10 vehicle defect notices.

"Five were suspended from trading, two prevented from driving, one vehicle seized, one driver reported for smoking in his vehicle and one driver reported for using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving."
