Funding for a major transport link in Truro to bring forward the development of new homes to build a community, allow more investment in public transport and encourage cycling and walking which will improve the lives of residents has been announced today.
The Government has announced that Cornwall Council has been successful in its bid for £47 million from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund to build the Truro Northern Access Road and bring forward the development of new homes.
Sarah Newton, Parliament Member for Truro and Falmouth, said "I was pleased to make the case within Government for the funding required to deliver this important new link and improve the quality of the development planned by Cornwall Council for this area. It's vitally important that we develop attractive, sustainable places where local people will love to live. This investment sits alongside investment in new school places and health services."
Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for planning and economy, Bob Egerton, said: "Good connections are the key to the success of communities as well as businesses and the people who work there. This funding will release other funds for building the infrastructure needed to support the housing and workspace that Cornwall needs.
"Our communities need appropriate infrastructure and the delivery of the Truro Northern Access Road is key so that so we can ensure the needs of residents are front and centre.
We are committed to improving Cornwall's road and public transport networks and unlocking stalled housing development sites. The new link will open up access to the new development with a new A390 junction at Penstraze."
The Northern Access Road will run parallel to the north of the existing A390 between Threemilestone and Treliske. The public will be invited to view the proposals for the 3.5km route as part of the planning submission in Spring 2020. Subject to all the necessary approvals and consents being secured, work is anticipated to start in Summer 2020 and be completed in Winter 2022.
