As a result of the pandemic which has meant that most civic occasions have been cancelled this past year, the Mayor, Councillor Steve Eva has decided to support a number of local organisations from his Mayoral fund.

He has donated £500 to the Mission to Seafarers which provides fantastic support to seafarers from their base at Falmouth Docks.

Pendennis Brass Band will receive £250 to support them through this difficult time.

A joint project between Councillor Trish Minson and The Trustees of Bosvale Community Centre to clean up the stream at Bosvale will receive £250.

Penny Phillips BEM, Chairman of Falmouth Mission said:

"Seafarers have had a particularly hard time during the pandemic, as they are out of sight and mostly out of mind – and yet it is seafarers we have to thank for continuing to bring our daily needs – no seafarers equals no shopping.

"We have always been proud to have the support of Falmouth Town Council and the Mayor & Mayoress of Falmouth, Cllr Steve Eva and Vicky, and we are very grateful and touched that The Mayor, an ex-seafarer himself, has chosen to support the seafarers we all depend on by this donation to The Mission in Falmouth."

Falmouth and Penryn Sea Cadets who help young people aged 9 to 18 to develop life skills through adventure and fun in a safe, secure maritime environment, following the ethos and values of the Royal Navy will also receive £250.

Commanding Officer Mike Nixon Chairman of Falmouth & Penryn's Sea Cadet Unit, said:

"TS Hichens is very grateful indeed for the Mayor's generous donation towards our fundraising efforts. We are crowdfunding within the Aviva Community Fund, to enable us to buy some electronic tablets for the Cadets to use at home and in groups at the Unit, during our twice-weekly evening training sessions.

"The tablets will facilitate online lectures and quizzes for the children, in the same way, that schools provide remote lessons, as another string to our bow in helping our young people develop life skills for their futures."

The Mayor has also agreed to donate £1000 towards this years Tallships event.

The Mayor will formally present his donations to the organisations later in the year when restrictions allow.
