Falmouth's Mayor Steve Eva has said he is disappointed following vandalism to a new community boardwalk.

Last week, residents shared reports of vandals attempting to steal parts of the new boardwalk being built in Prislow Woods, Swanvale.

Addressing the community in his weekly column, the mayor said he was "disappointed" to hear of the vandalism after huge efforts to improve the area.

Mayor Steve Eva wrote:

"This has been a huge amount of time and effort to improve the area and space for people to enjoy only to be vandalised by some people who show no respect for others.

"We must however look forward to life getting back to some normality after the last 16 months, but still be on our guard and continue to stay safe."

Looking ahead to Falmouth Week he continued:

"This week has been all about the build-up to Falmouth Week although the night entertainment has been shortened due to Covid mainly the Ping threat

"The sailing will be well supported and a sight for many to enjoy from the headland.

"There are as you know many things happening on The Moor all week the Red Arrows on Wednesday night and Fireworks on Friday night at 10pm, also night entertainment from Friday through to Sunday at Church Street Carpark.

"There is plenty happening which brings me to the Carnival which was smaller due to Covid but the turnout from the town residents and visitors was as big as I have ever seen and the atmosphere was fantastic.

"A big thank you to Falmouth Marine Band who organise the carnival every year. I would like to thank all those who took part and a special thanks to Embrace Dance Group who brought colour and a great atmosphere to the parade."

"I still believe masks are needed in indoor spaces in respect to other peoples safety, enjoy Falmouth Week," Steve added.
