Falmouth lifeboat launched in early hours over concerns for person who fell into the water

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

The Falmouth lifeboat crew was put into action in the early hours of yesterday morning (5th) following reports an individual had fallen into the water and had then climbed on board a moored vessel.

The lifeboat was launched from the slipway and arrived on the scene in St Mawes Harbour at 02:23.

The casualty was located onboard a small open boat. Having checked they did not need any medical assistance the casualty was returned to their yacht.

A spokesperson for Falmouth RNLI said:

"The casualty had been returning to his vessel when he had capsized his tender. Having secured the tender ashore, the casualty decided to swim back out to his vessel, but after swimming a short distance he decided it was too far and climbed on board an unoccupied vessel.

"He had planned to stay there overnight but decided to contact the coastguard when he started to succumb to the cold."
