Those staying at local hotels in Falmouth had to be evacuated in the early hours of this morning following a bomb scare.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called at around 3:15am following reports of a suspicious package on the grounds of Falmouth Hotel.

Residents of the Falmouth Hotel, "Madeira Hotel", and campervans in the area were evacuated.

A 100 metre cordon was put in place and Royal Navy Explosive Ordance Disposal attended.

At around 6:30am the device was declared not viable and therefore safe.

The cordon was then removed and around 100 people were allowed back into their rooms.

Devon and Cornwall Police revealed further details on social media adding:

"We currently believe that this is a hoax incident and a criminal investigation has been launched."
