Bathing water could be affected after reports of sewage being discharged into the sea at Gylly Beach, Falmouth.

A warning today (22nd) from Safer Seas & Rivers Service says that storm sewage has been discharged near the beach from a sewer overflow within the past 48 hours. The interactive map tracks real-time CSOs (combined sewage overflows) and PRFs (pollution risk forecasts). It monitors the water quality at over 400 locations around UK rivers and coastlines.

The alert reads: "Gyllyngvase bathing water may be affected by a nearby overflow some 400m to the southwest of the beach. Other discharges into the Fal River may also have an impact here, along with diffuse pollution."

Numerous pollution warnings have been issued at beaches across England and Wales recently after heavy rain caused sewer systems to overflow.

Others in Cornwall include Millendreath in Looe and Long Rock near Marazion.
