A popular footpath in Falmouth has temporarily closed after damage caused by a trapped lorry.

The footpath by Marlborough House on Silverdale Road is well used by residents - but it is now unclear when it will reopen following the incident.

As revealed by Falmouth Arwenack Councillor Jude Robinson, yesterday (Tuesday 15th) a lorry got stuck and caused heavy damage to the wall surrounding the house leaving it unsafe.

As a result, people are being asked to go round the allotments and boardwalk or by Silverdale Road and the path by the stream.

Cornwall Council said in an update they have closed the footpath for "public safety", a spokesperson added:

"We are awaiting further details from CC Building Control colleagues to whom this has been reported. It will be their responsibility to follow this up with the owner as authority for dangerous structures adjoining the highway.

"Essentially we cannot reopen the footway until Building Control advise the wall is either made safe or repairs have been undertaken. The contractor has been very cooperative and has fully admitted liability so there should be no issues from their insurer's perspective in getting the repairs moved forward.

"Of course, the wall is historic and I believe listed, so repairs will need to be undertaken by a specialist contractor to the correct standards in due course. Listed building consent will likely be required which may impact how long this takes to resolve."
