Falmouth Food Coop is set to launch the Love Land community field project - signing a lease on 10 acres of land near St Gluvias Church for the initiative.

Love Land will produce local food, planting trees and providing a space for nature and community to thrive together.

This will be done through growing projects, workshops and gatherings so everyone can get involved with the production of food.

Since the land has been secured the group has set up a crowdfunder to get the project rolling but is also welcoming input from the community.

Initial ideas include growing a forest garden; creating a community market garden to provide nutritious food and educational opportunities; and working with the Falmouth Food Co-op Kitchen to set up a field kitchen, giving people cooking skills and supplying food to those most in need.

Falmouth Food Coop told Nub News:

"The field project is an amazing opportunity for our whole community to come together. We really want to make it as accessible as possible and offer workshops that get everyone involved in growing, working with local schools too so that kids can come up and learn to grow food as well as prepare great food.

"This whole situation is showing us how fragile our system of food is and that it is still important everyone is still able to choose where their food comes from.

"We want to make it appealing for everyone, I think sometimes people have a view that growing food is for old people or people who have a garden but we hope that this community garden will enable people of all ages and backgrounds to come and do whatever they can and receive all the benefits from being outdoors and growing delicious veg can bring."

What will the funding be used for?

  • Basic growing equipment (seeds, compost, hand tools)
  • A storage shed
  • A field shelter for volunteers
  • A tractor to manage the field

Falmouth Food Coop added:

"Growing, cooking and eating together to heal the planet, this is our opportunity to transform this field for everyone to enjoy."
