Falmouth Food Co-op recently celebrated the launch of its new website in typical style - getting around the table for a feast.

The new website has been in the works since June being built by Mike Hayes of Mike's Imagination.

Described as a "revolution of the food supply chain", the website is thought to be the first example of a fully automated collective shopping platform.

Ben Moloney, one of the founders of Falmouth Food Co-op told Nub News:

"This is the first social collective shopping website that I know of, I think of it as the opposite of eBay. Instead of bidding to compete for a product, you work together to create enough demand amongst yourselves to buy it from a wholesaler.

"We are able to get really cheap prices without having to have loads of storage. We have two shipping containers at The Draceana Centre and because we order exactly what's needed we don't have to take a risk on buying loads of stock, we just buy what people want. That's what this software allows us to do."

Falmouth Food Co-op also took up the kitchen and cafe at Princess Pavilion in June, and has created a superb social eating space.

Encouraging people to support local producers, reduce food waste, eat well and spend time with each other again.

Ben continued:

"We are here on a trial run until March, and in March we will decide whether we want to continue. Hopefully, the residents are behind us, everyone has been really lovely and welcoming.

"It is a bit different from a usual cafe, we are here to make a place where everyone is welcome, all the prices are suggested so if you don't have much money you can come along and pay what you want.

"We do really good food for really good value. All the ingredients are from local producers, which we are really proud to support.

"It has been fantastic, there have been so many groups using this space. The town councillors have been great, Henrietta (Falmouth Town Council) has been amazing. She just allows all these wonderful groups to come and operate in here, there is music in here, there is country dancing, stroke group, sketch club. There must be like 100 groups that come here and use the space, it is magic."
