Further government funding has been provided to improve flood defences in Truro and Falmouth.
The move was welcomed by MP Cherilyn Mackrory with funding for several flood defence projects in the constituency.
The government is investing a record £5.2 billion in flood and coastal defences over the next six years to better protect 336,000 properties.
This week the government has published its Investment Plan which sets out what they will achieve from this investment, how they will develop the portfolio of projects to improve the country's flood and coastal defences, and how they will manage the investment and track its progress.
As part of this announcement, projects in Truro and Falmouth will be receiving more than £1million in funding to protect communities from flood risk.
These projects are:
Newmills Dam Improvements Project - £7,000
Idless Dam Improvements project - £419,000
Falmouth Integrated Urban Drainage Modelling including Tidal Prince of Wales Pier - £500,000
Truro Tidal Gate - £150,000
Cherilyn said:
"I was really sorry to see the flooding in other parts of the country earlier this week. This makes it all the clearer that we need to act now to do all we can to protect our communities from flood risk."
"Tackling flood and coastal erosion risk is a priority for this government and we are acting to drive down risk from every angle. Last July I was pleased to see their publication of a long-term Policy Statement for England which sets out our ambition to create a nation more resilient to future flood and coastal erosion risk."
"One year later I am pleased to see significant funding released for several projects in Truro and Falmouth which will help protect our communities from flooding in the future."
"There is always more to do, but I hope this is a good start to realising these plans locally and I will continue to work with all concerned to ensure our constituency gets its fair share of future funds in this area."
