The Gem Fish and Chip Shop on Quarry Hill has closed for the "foreseeable future" following the latest government advice on Coronavirus.

The shop is still open for takeaway and is now offering a free portion of fish and chips to NHS staff AND free delivery for the elderly and vulnerable.

Posted on their Facebook page this morning, the announcement read:

"Despite the restaurant being closed, we will still be open for takeaway, collection and delivery (around Falmouth), and you can place an order by calling 01326 313640. Additionally, Deliveroo services are still available and our Fish and Chips can be ordered through the Deliveroo website; Deliveroo is also offering non-contact deliveries for vulnerable customers.

"We would like to offer a free portion of fish and chips to every NHS worker (with valid staff ID). Furthermore, to help people more at risk during this time, we're offering free delivery to elderly and vulnerable people (around Falmouth).

"We'll be introducing some additional hygiene measures during this time. Unfortunately, we have decided that we will no longer be able to offer toilet facilities. We are also introducing restrictions on the number of people in the shop at one time: max 2 people in the inside takeaway area.

"Please use the stairs outside to wait if there are already customers in the shop, and remember to keep two metres apart from anyone not in your household. Additionally, where possible, please try to use a contactless card rather than cash for payment.

"We hope you all stay healthy and safe over these coming months, watch out for one another as it's going to be a difficult time for everyone. Thank you so much for your continuous support through these uncertain times for us all - we appreciate it."

The new opening times for takeaway are:

Wednesday and Thursday (closed lunchtime) 16:30-20:00

Friday and Saturday 11:30-14:00 and 16:30-20:00.
