The Working Boat will be hosting its annual Dragon Boat Race later this month with the aim of raising money for charity and having a good time.

This will be the third consecutive event after the hugely popular races back in 2021 and 2022.

Head down to the pub's quay on Saturday 29 July to watch or compete in an exciting day of racing, all in support of the mental health charity, Man Down.

Dragon boat racing is a sporting event where teams compete in canoe-like vessels fitted with hand-carved dragons' heads and tails. The boats that are supplied by the organisers can fit up to 17 people, this includes 16 paddlers and one drummer.

Teams will race against each other over a 200-metre course, each event will be timed, and the best time over the three races will be the one that is used to determine whether you go into the final.

On the page for the event, the start time says 8:30 am with the first race expected at 10. The full schedule of race times are yet to be confirmed. However, there will be lots happening throughout the day to keep people entertained.

For the early risers, the pub will be serving hearty baps to fuel your appetites in time for the first race, they will also be joined later by Penryn locals Pizza Pls for a selection of wood-fired Neapolitan classics.

Although the event is free to enter and watch, teams may have stalls to try to boost their sponsorship. The Working Boat will also be donating 10% of all proceeds generated from food and drink sales during the day to their charity partner Man Down.

After a fun day of racing the entertainment will continue with live music being performed from 5 pm onwards.

If you are looking to compete in the racing, you can register your team's interest and find out more info, by emailing here: [email protected].

Entry is £23.50 per person based on 17 rowers – if you wish to purchase entry for a team it is £399 for as many rowers as you like, but only 17 people can row per race.
