Falmouth based Concept Shed have collaborated with DuFort Associates in Wadebridge to mass-produce reusable protective face shields for health workers in Cornwall.

The not-for-profit CoVisor project, created by Sam Lanyon, Shawn Brown and Francis Dufort, is in production after only a week and with support from their CrowdFunder campaign currently at over £9,000.

They are providing health workers with face shields at cost price and donating them to hospitals for free.

After an urgent request for 100 visors from Treliske on Wednesday, they were able to deliver these in full yesterday.

Using the industrial mass-manufacturing process of injection moulding means they are producing up to 1,000 face shields a day and are aiming to more than double that next week.

The money will go towards supporting the manufacture of the face shields in order to meet the demand of Cornwall.

The shields are being sold at-cost to organisations who can pay and are given for free to hospitals where national procurement can cause long delays.

Sam Lanyon, a creator of CoVisor, told Nub News:

"I find it very humbling when frontline NHS staff how grateful they are for something as basic as a face shield.

"I am excited that in many settings our CoVisor face shield can be taken apart and cleaned for reuse. This is helping to reduce the demand as well as waste.

"Shawn is now working full time to get more injection moulding factories into production so looking forward a few weeks, we can make a significant contribution to the national requirement."

The design of the face shield is open-source, which allows other manufacturers across the world to use the design and take a step forward to meeting global demand.

In their first week of production, CoVisor has fulfilled requests for over 2,200 face shields.
