Falmouth Community Fire Station and the Town Council will be working together this summer to prevent beach fires.

Announced over the weekend, the fire station will be more visible than ever this summer during busy periods as they look to crack down on open fires.

In January, the Town Council sought permission for a Public Space Protection Order to prevent anti-social behaviour and fires at Gylly Beach.

The rise in the number of beach fires in the area has meant the Town Council is taking matters very seriously.

Businesses in the nearby area have experienced problems from antisocial behaviour and open fires, with Gylly Adventures and WeSUP all sharing serious damage done by this type of behaviour.

The notice was shared by Falmouth Community Fire Station on social media, the guidelines can be clearly seen on a sign at Gyllyngvase Beach reading, "no fires, except barbecues in permitted areas."

Speaking on the issue in September, Falmouth Coastguard commented:

"Unattended fires can cause a real hazard to the buildings on the beach and can cause a completely unnecessary call out for our local fire crews.

"The leftover burned material can pose a real pollution and safety risk not only from any plastics that might be burned, but also from any nails that might be left in the sand."
