Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team is always sharing work they carry out in the area, recently it included a reported pollution incident in Penryn and a hazardous object at Prisk Cove.
When you think of Coastguard volunteers you may think their only role is to deal with those in danger out at sea but on top of that they also search for missing people, report and deal with pollution and other hazards, and help emergency services and local authorities during emergencies.
Yesterday the team alongside the Falmouth Community Fire Station were called out to a report of a potentially hazardous drum that was leaking, having been washed up at Prisk Cove (Cow Beach), Mawnan Smith.
The team provided an update on social media, they said: "On scene, a small drum was discovered. It was leaking a white substance. The drum was quickly identified as a 'low hazard' and fire crews made it safe. Team members then worked with fire crews to remove the drum from their fire appliance for onward disposal.
On Saturday morning the team was also called out to a report of a pollution incident on the Penryn River near Ponsharden.
The team gave this update: "On scene, a quantity of diesel oil was discovered in the water. On further investigation is was believed to have originated from a yacht that had sunk on its mooring overnight. Samples were collected and photographs were taken. Details were passed to the relevant harbour authorities for further action."
