On Friday (8th), Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team was called into action with the help of the Falmouth Lifeboat crew after reports that a person had become cut off by the tide at Maenporth Beach.

The individual self recovered and the lifeboat was stood down, but the coastguard continued to monitor the casualty.

Details of the incident were revealed today on social media, a spokesperson for the Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"We were requested to continue to check the welfare of the casualty who was in the care of cafe staff.

"While on the scene, the casualty suffered a medical episode and required an Ambulance."

The casualty was immediately treated by Coastguard 'casualty carers.'

Coastguard Helicopter '924' was nearby and offered their assistance and landed on the beach.

The casualty was taken to hospital by a crew from Bristol Ambulance EMS.

A spokesperson for the coastguard praised the work of Life's A Beach Cafe in Maenporth for their assistance saying:

"Thanks very much to the staff from Life's A Beach Cafe for the call, the assistance to the casualty and the refreshments. All Very much appreciated.

"This was an unfortunate accident and the casualty, who was out for her exercise period, had ended up being cut off by the tide following an earlier medical episode and was unable to summon help.

"She tried to make her own way back and swam a significant distance and scrambled across rocks to get back to shore."
