Falmouth and Exeter University volunteer group, RAD, have raised over £700 for charity through their dating event, Take Me Out.

The event, which took place in The Stannary on Penryn Campus, recreated the popular ITV dating show with student singletons looking for a date.

The money raised will be going to the Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity, a London based non-profit which aims to support seriously ill children and their families.

President of RAD, Katie Hemmings, told Nub News:

"Take Me Out was such a success. We basically recreated the TV show, with 12 single guys trying to win a date from 15 single ladies. We were amazed at how many students came and supported the event, we estimated around 400 to 500 people came - it was amazing.

"The contestants and hosts were so great and really got stuck in, it was a really fun and entertaining evening. Around half the boys got dates as well, hopefully, they all went well.

"In total, £706 was raised for Rays of Sunshine, which we were so thrilled with, we cannot thank everyone who played a part in reaching that amount enough."

Rowan Ellett, Journalism student and contestant in the event, told Nub News:

"It was my first time doing anything like it and I enjoyed every bit of it. There were a lot of people in the audience which really helped build up the atmosphere.

"Events, like Take Me Out, are great for the University. They are a way of bringing students together, whatever year they are or degree they're on."
