Extension to outdoor seating area and plans for ice cream kiosk at Pier Cafe

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

Plans have been presented for extensions to Falmouth's Pier Cafe including the outdoor seating area and a new ice cream kiosk.

Also in the plans is a proposal for a gate to completely enclose the outdoor area when the cafe is closed to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour.

The ice cream kiosk will be timber frame constructed, located by the entrance of the cafe.

The extended outdoor area provides seating in a more visible area to passing trade and affords customers panoramic views of the sun later in the day.

In the previous application back in November, the Pier Cafe has sought permission for a decking area but that has since been removed.

Following a consultation with the Historic Environment department, the decking "would harm the existing setting and character of the listed quay," and would now see the area tarmacked and edged with granite, much like the war memorial opposite.

Falmouth Town Council has "recommended approval" for the application.

The application is awaiting a final decision.
