An exciting day on the town calendar this week as Falmouth prepares for the big Christmas lights switch-on.

A really special evening, more so because of last year's virtual events due to covid, with the festivities coming back in full force.

The community is understandably delighted that the town will be lit up on Thursday 25th November.

The evening starts when schoolchildren representing the town's primary schools, as well as other local groups and Santa, gather on Events Square.

They will have all sorts of decorations and colourful lanterns before leaving the square at around 5:30-5:40pm and processing through the town towards The Moor.

Once on The Moor, each school sings a Christmas carol on the state-of-the-art stage before the big switch-on at 7pm.

The evening is organised by the Falmouth Town Team as always with entertainment from Pirate FM.

The lights are switched on each year by a nominated community champion in a public vote - this time Andrea Fifield and Pete Marland were picked.

The special pair were chosen after giving up their time during lockdown to make scrubs for the NHS, while they were at home unable to work.

After it was revealed who would be switching on the lights, Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva said:

"Make sure you come along for what will be a very magical night and help kick off Falmouth festivities."

Full timings:

17:00 – children and singing groups start to gather on Events Square.

17:40 – the parade leaves Events Square and heads through town towards The Moor.

18:15 – school groups each sing a Christmas song or carol.

19:00 – the big Christmas lights switch-on by Falmouth's voted for community champion for the year.
