A man in his 70s was taken to hospital yesterday evening after a collision.

An elderly man was taken to Treliske after a collision on the A39 which closed the route for most of the evening.

Eyewitnesses in Penryn last night (13th) called the traffic a "nightmare" with multiple incidents on the roads.

Around 5pm an accident was reported on the A39 Penryn Bypass, Antron Hill to Hillhead Roundabout, involving a Mitsubishi and Volkswagen Sirocco.

The road was closed for a lengthy period to allow emergency services to attend, early indications were that the injuries to the driver of the Sirocco could be serious.

In an update, Devon and Cornwall Police said a man in his 70s was taken to Treliske Hospital in a serious condition. That has since been downgraded and his injuries are no longer deemed life-threatening.

The reopening of the road including the repairs of the barriers was left in the hands of the Highways Agency.
