A medal belonging to a serviceman originally from Falmouth has been found in Lyme Regis, with an appeal issued to return it to the family.

Mark Turner, from Chard in Somerset found the medal on a beach in Lyme Regis recently and is keen to reunite it with the owners.

After doing some research on the medal it was found to have been awarded to Richard Henry Hocking, a shoemaker, whose birthplace was in Falmouth.

Mark Turner wrote:

"Looking for relatives of RH Hocking, service number 150725, medal found on beach in Lyme Regis. Would like to reunite it with the family, will need proof of being family as a lot of Hocking in the Falmouth area."

In the picture shown, the medal is a 1914 Star, otherwise known as the Mons Star. A British World War One campaign medal for service in France or Belgium between 5th August and 22nd November 1914.

If you have any information or know the family, you can find Mark on Facebook.
