Falmouth and Penryn Cycling campaign took to the streets on Saturday 31st July to show how much support there is for cycling in the local area and to campaign for safer cycling options.

Taking a 3 mile route from Penryn, via Falmouth station up around Pendennis point and down to Gyllyngvase Beach, around 30 cyclists from veterans to babies on cycle seats came together for a sociable leisurely ride.

Sinead Hanks, a Penryn Town Councillor who helped organise the event said:

"Many people hadn't been on their bikes in months, in one case years. We know that community events like this give confidence to new or returning cyclists and if there were better protection from vehicles many more would get on their bikes.

"Most of us are motorists or pedestrians too so it's important to find solutions that work well for everyone."

Both Falmouth and Penryn Town Councils now support "20s Plenty", campaigning for slower vehicle speeds in places where people live, shop, work, and go to school, to promote walking and cycling.

There are proposals for improved infrastructure for cyclists between Falmouth and Penryn and the area is hosting a stage of the Tour of Britain on Sunday September 5th with Penryn featuring one of the only two sprint stages in Cornwall.

Falmouth and Penryn Cycling Campaign aim to arrange monthly events and can be contacted via their website at http://falpencc.org.uk/ or via their Facebook page, click here for more.
