Cornwall Council leader Linda Taylor is set to go on a tour of Cornwall to hold a series of public meetings to ask people what they would like to see from the council.

The Conservative leader announced that she will be undertaking a 10-date tour at a meeting of the council's Cabinet this morning.

The first event will be in Penzance later this month and Cllr Taylor will then visit Newquay, Bude, Helston, and Liskeard in June and July. Further events are planned in Falmouth, Wadebridge, St Austell, Torpoint, and Camborne in September and October.

Cllr Taylor announced the plans at the Cabinet meeting saying that she wanted to ensure that people could give their views about what their local priorities are whilst also informing people about the work the council is doing.

She said: "As you are all aware we have based the priorities of this administration on what we heard on the doorstep during last year's election and I want to make sure we continue that dialogue.

"So, in line with our commitment to listen and work with residents to keep them informed about our work I will attend a series of 10 meetings across Cornwall so that residents can ask the leaders in person questions about local issues, services, and priorities."

Cllr Taylor said that the administration had set "clear priorities" to create a carbon neutral Cornwall and somewhere great to live, work and grow up, adding: "Our priorities are the same as our residents'."

And she said: "I want to go out and talk about what we are already doing across Cornwall at the local level to deliver against those priorities. But most of all I want to hear from local residents, businesses, and community groups what they see as their local priorities and how we can work together to make Cornwall an even better place."

Cllr Taylor said that she would also be inviting other members of the Cabinet to attend the events to speak to residents and take questions.

The schedule for the first five events is as follows:

  • May 25, St John's Hall, Penzance
  • June 6, Newquay Tretherras School
  • June 22, Ivor Potter Hall, The Parkhouse Centre, Bude
  • July 4, The Old Cattle Market, Helston
  • July 19, Public Hall, Liskeard.

All events are scheduled to have a 7pm for 7:30pm start time and will be finished by 9pm at the latest.
