Coronavirus: Falmouth Age Concern to launch telephone befriending service
Could you spare some time to call an older person who is self-isolating? Falmouth Age Concern is launching a new telephone befriending service to support the elderly during the Coronavirus epidemic.
Due to the increased risk of Coronavirus, the charity is now avoiding face-to-face befriending.
Posted on the Age Concern Facebook page, the charity said:
"It is likely that in the coming months the older population will be at an increased risk of social isolation. To address this, we would like to ask that you continue to telephone your clients even if you are unable to safely visit them in person.
"We would like to be able to offer telephone befriending to anyone who needs it, even those who are not already clients of ours."
The charity is looking for volunteers to give some time to telephone befriend isolated people for a short period, should the need arise.
They are also asking that you contact them if you become aware of an older person who is facing increased loneliness in the current circumstances who may benefit from being telephoned.
