Cormac has asked Cornwall Council for pre-application advice on moving the rising bollard from the entrance to Church Street to the entrance to Market Street to fall in line with making the Experimental Traffic regulation order or ETRO in the area permanent.

Cormac says that there will also be a series of gateway improvements such as new signage, lining, planters, seating, and a clear crossing point.

The plans aim to make the high street more friendly to pedestrians but many locals have already expressed their concerns on the community Facebook page:

Alison D'Bue said in part of their comment: "I sincerely hope that this will not be the final nail in Falmouth's coffin. With a large number of elderly folk living in Falmouth, and a large number of parents with pushchairs and small children, the walk from Quarry Hill Car park will be just too much for some and they will stop using the independent retailers in town, and just go somewhere more welcoming. I assume that there will be no "shuttle" bus running the length of the shopping area?"

Alex Smith Commented: "The traffic already gets backed up along Market Strand and Webber Street from delays parking outside Tesco, so if people sit and wait for the bollard to go down it will be permanently logjammed that end of town."

The current status of the application is still awaiting the decision but you can view the full plans here.
