Celebrate World Refugee Day at the Princess Pavilion
Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugees will be hosting a free cultural event at the Princess Pavilion on Tuesday 20th June with Middle Eastern and Cornish performers, to celebrate World Refugee Day.
Cornwall has a long history of offering sanctuary for those fleeing conflict and the day will be marked through a celebration of cultural diversity with amazing food and entertainment.
The event will be part of Refugee Week, (19th-23rd June), where the Princess Pavillion will also be holding an exhibition of illustrated prints by artist Alice Mawdsley.
For World Refugee Day the organisers have put together a number of activities for people to get involved with including workshops and Merch and Jumble in a Box stall running throughout the day.
Here is the schedule for the day:
- 10.30 am in the cafe - Help make a new banner for Falmouth and Penryn Welcome Refugees
- 4 pm - Free Arabic dance workshop from Hawiyya Dance Company, all ages and abilities welcome
- 6 pm - Middle Eastern BBQ plus baklava, delicious veggie and vegan options catered for
- 6.30 WAD - Traditional all-female Morris Dancers
- 7.30 pm - Live music from Skillywidden, internationally acclaimed champions of traditional Cornish folk music Nos Lowen, who will perform with Hawiyya Dance Company.
