Prime Minister Boris Johnson faced a vote of no confidence this evening.

Boris Johnson will continue as Prime Minister after winning a confidence vote this evening.

We reported earlier how a vote of confidence in Boris Johnson was due to take place this evening, with the results being announced at 9pm.

The results are now in, with Tory MPs voting by 211 to 148 votes to keep Johnson as Prime Minister, meaning he remains in the role by a margin of 63 votes.

If Johnson lost, he would have been forced to stand down as Prime Minister and the Conservatives would have then chosen a new leader.

The vote came after months of scandal over 'Partygate', which saw the Prime Minister fined by police over rule-breaking lockdown gatherings at Downing Street.

Nub News contacted Truro and Falmouth MP Cherilyn Mackrory to ask whether she thought the Prime Minister should resign.

No response was given. However, she did post on Twitter:

"I will be supporting the Prime Minister this evening. In December 2019 nobody predicted the COVID pandemic and following hits to the global economy. My focus remains on delivering for Truro & Falmouth and not this media-driven Westminster soap opera."
