A new comedy festival is coming to Falmouth spanning over four days and six venues in the town.

Inspired by Edinburgh Fringe Festival, "The Falmouth Cringe" will welcome many well-known names from Mock The Week, Live at The Apollo plus a dedicated locals stage.

From the 30th June to 3rd July, comedians will be performing at The Chintz, Underland, Toast, The Cornish Bank, The Poly, Solskinn - The Church. The names can't be revealed currently as contracts are in the process of being signed.

The events are being organised by co-owner of Chintz Franciska Earle, events co-ordinator Johanna Brooks, programmer Billie Hakansson, alongside Graham Wilkes who is getting together the locals stage at Toast.

Franciska told Nub News:

"There is a lot of comedy in Falmouth. Amata has a stage where they do monthly shows, Toast holds a monthly comedy event, we have done comedy nights in Chintz before and they have always gone really well.

"However, there doesn't seem to be a dedicated comedy festival in Cornwall. I think the area is crying out for it. The way Falmouth is laid out like a strip of bars lends itself to that Edinburgh Fringe style."

Tickets will go live when Underland hosts a launch party on the 22nd of April. There will be three Cornish comedians playing, drag queen host Pasha, plus music from Hedluv & Passman.

The tickets will range from £5 to £15 keeping it affordable for everyone.

Franciska added:

"The whole point is to bring comedy to Cornwall and people should be able to afford it.

"There is going to be something for everyone. A kid's comedy show will be put on. There will be a lot for everyone basically, it won't just be your typical stand-up comedy routine.

"A lot of the acts are female and we've tried to keep the program really varied. When the comedy has finished there will be a party in Underland every night with Hedluv & Passman, Shagrat, and Queer the Decks."
