A man has found a Royal Navy Iraq war memorial coin on Gyllyngvase beach today and the owner is now trying to be located.
Roger Crow handed the coin into the staff at RNAS Culdrose and an appeal has been put out on Facebook for anyone who might know who it belongs to.
The coin itself is not worth any money, but it is very possible that it has great sentimental value to the owner.
A spokesman for RNAS Culdrose told Nub News:
"We are thankful to Mr Crow for contacting us at first regarding his find on the beach at Falmouth.
"Given where it was found, it is believed the coin may have been dropped on the beach by accident.
"Although these coins have no monetary value, they may have some sentimental significance and we'd be delighted to trace its owner."
The Facebook post appeal reads:
"It bears the crest of HMS Seahawk and was specially ordered by the station's Warrant Officers' and Senior Rates' Mess.
"On the reverse is marked the date of March 22, 2018, for a mess dinner to remember the 15th anniversary of Operation Telic, the codename for operations in Iraq."
The owner is asked to contact RNAS Culdrose by email to [email protected].
