Tucked away down St Georges Arcade, a store has opened with the aim of offering a welcoming and affordable take on the well known 'build a bear' formula.

Bobby Bear workshop, operating since November 2019, is run by Carol Perry and Kyara Coulson.

The store stocks a wide range of bears to create; from a traditional teddy bear all the way to a colourful dinosaur.

Carol Perry had the idea to open the store after wanting to take her daughter to a Build a Bear Workshop for her ninth birthday, but found that the closest was in Exeter.

Bobby Bear Workshop holds birthday parties for children of all ages, which are customised and catered to individual children's needs.

The upstairs party room, completely decorated by Carol and Kyara, has been styled into a magical escape, equipped with unicorns, flowers and sophisticated china cutlery.

Carol Perry, owner of Bobby Bear Workshop, told Nub News:

"It really has been a labour of love. The whole building wasn't conducive to a warm friendly atmosphere at the beginning.

"We took a lot of time in our heads getting the vision right, as we wanted to make sure it was attractive for both the children and the parents."

The store prides itself on its affordability - purposefully offering considerably lower rates than the Build a Bear Workshop franchise.

It also allows customers to return to refill their bear at any time.
