Welcome to the fourth instalment of our "an afternoon with" series. These articles are all about celebrating a variety of businesses and individuals in our community. It doesn't matter how big or how small, we want to provide original coverage on those that are making an impact around our wonderful town.

'The Chintz Symposium', commonly known as 'Chintz', is a bar and music venue situated on the Old High Street in Falmouth.

Opening over just three years ago, it has become a staple of the Falmouth drinking scene - offering a very different atmosphere to your average boozer.

The bar is owned by Francisca Earl and brothers, Keiran and Duncan Bruce.

The three of them became friends while working at Glastonbury Festival.

Originally saving up to go travelling, they decided to spend the money on opening Chintz instead.

We spent the afternoon with co-owner, Francisca Earl, she said:

"We actually were originally pushing very hard for us to just be a wine bar at the beginning."

The Chintz Symposium, while offering a wide selection of wines, is much more than just that.

Despite the fairly limited space, live music is rife at Chintz.

Drinkers at the bar are regularly treated to intimate musical performances from local/national bands and solo artists.

This upcoming weekend is full of great music.

The Andy Quick Band will be playing on Friday and Falmouth blues legend, Jules, will be playing on Saturday.

The first thing that will strike you upon arrival of Chintz is probably the way it looks.

Decorations include beheaded ornaments, limbless mannequins and some things you really need to see to believe.

Part of the charm is that even after countless visits, you'll almost always catch something you haven't spotted before.

Francisca continued:

"When we first started on the decoration, we were going for Alice In Wonderland. It's our favourite book. We wanted it to feel like you're falling down the rabbit hole.

"It's an easy theme to go by. You can put whatever you want on the wall and it blends in with the aesthetic.

"It's nice because other people add things to the walls and ceilings now - it has become everybody's art project."

Alongside their cheese and toastie menu, Chintz hosts outside eateries to spend a night serving from their roof terrace kitchen.

Wednesday welcomes BBQ caterer, The Aussie Smoker while Thursday hosts plant-based Keralan food stall, Atta.

The Chintz Symposium is the definition of a vibrant bar; offering a lot more than just a place to drink or have a bite to eat.

Get down and see if you can find the secret room.

Yes, there is an actual secret room.
