A family run South African style restaurant in Falmouth has outlined plans to expand the business.
The owners of Amanzi, based on Arwenack Street, were speaking last night (Monday 21st) at Falmouth Town Council's Licensing Committee meeting.
They had applied for a street trading licence to operate a pizza trailer near Queen Mary Gardens, Monday-Sunday, between the hours of 8am-8pm, from March to November.
Speaking at the meeting, the family said:
"We have a little restaurant in town and we took a lot of losses during lockdowns. We wanted to expand our business in some way but it is pretty limited in our current location and we came up with the idea of a pizza trailer."
They continued:
"We need to look ahead in case we get closed down again. We need an alternative to survive. We have been going for 11 1/2 years and we employ quite a few people. With this growth, we can employ more people. Also, this means we can be open longer."
Councillor Steve Eva explained that Falmouth is now plastic-free and the trailer would have to comply with plastic-free rules, no plastic trays, plastic knives, or forks. They would also be expected to clean up around the van after service.
The owners agreed and said the pizza would be served in cardboard boxes. A recycling bin would also be situated next to the van so people can dispose of their rubbish easily.
The committee voted to support the application - which will now go to Cornwall Council.
