There could be more opportunities for outdoor dining in Falmouth after the Town Council and the BID team reached fresh agreements with Cornwall Council, it was announced yesterday.

The agreement in principle is to utilise a portion of Church Street Car Park that can then be allocated to food and drink businesses.

In an open email to businesses, Falmouth Town Manager Richard Gates said:

"I wanted to update you all on an opportunity that the Town Council and BID have been working hard behind the scenes on, to support you as you plan for re-opening on or around the 4th July.

"This is something we have been working on among many other things of course, over the past few weeks but have now reached agreements in principle with Cornwall Council.

"We're well aware of Government announcements around 'alfresco dining' which is most welcome but as I say, to get there legally and safely, there has to be a lot of behind the scenes work to ensure it is safe, liabilities are in place and so on.

"We are also well aware that this space may not be immediately outside everyone's premises but we wanted to give the opportunity to you as you factor in perhaps, how to adopt social distancing guidelines and still operate viably.

"Businesses, to supply your own picnic tables, tables, chairs, branding etc but the use of the space will be made available free of charge."
