A word from your mayors: The G7, a Princess Pavilion update and praise for local taxi business
In a brand new regular feature, Mayor Steve Eva and Deputy Cllr Kirstie Edwards provide an update on the things going on at the Town Council.
Both mayors will be addressing the community weekly writing about what they have been up to, their committees/meetings, and any issues/news affecting residents in the town.
This is what the pair had to say about the events over the past week and going forward...
Cllr Kirstie Edwards - Deputy Mayor
This week saw very different parts- absolute mayhem over G7, then a somewhat calmer latter part of the week. G7, well what more is there to say about it, other than it was a thing that happened and Falmouth did herself proud.
I managed to get out and about both in an official capacity, speaking about building collaborative communities with the Y7 summit and then with BBC world news.
I also participated, as a resident, in the paddle out and hung around the town to document and absorb the positive energy surrounding the many and varied creative actions happening.
The police were absolute legends and kept their promise of "community-style policing" throughout, an element pushed for unanimously by our town team. Thank you to them all from us.
I confess to feeling relieved and grateful when it was all over though. It felt like the town did a collective sigh of relief, didn't it?
The end of my week has been all about Covid and catching up on casework for our residents, chasing projects and collecting information to pass on.
As a vulnerable person who had been shielding, the rise in cases locally has unsettled me, but as ever, the community has rallied, businesses have done what they needed to, and our town and BID team have worked overtime to ensure everyone has the right information to access the help and support they need.
We are so close now, I appreciate how frustrating this all is for our community, but we must do what we always do, crack on and do all we can to keep each other safe. Hand, face, space, and ventilation!
Mayor Steve Eva
It is fair to say this week went better than anyone could have asked with police security and protesters all doing the town proud.
This week I was lucky enough to witness the Classics Parade from the Princessa and I have to admit it was an excellent parade with roughly 150 classic boats parading.
After a nice lunch, we had to witness a Kill the Bill protest which had an unpleasant atmosphere to it but well controlled by the police.
Whilst on my walkabout on Friday I came across an elderly lady in her late 80s who had taken a fall which shook her up luckily one of the security company was first aid trained and ensured she was okay.
We phoned Donald's Cabs to take her back to the Falmouth Hotel and the hotel staff ensured she was looked after. Can I say a big thank you to Donald's Cab who did this free of cost and showed great Falmouth courtesy to a visitor to the town.
Princess Pavilion is moving in the right direction at pace, under the watchful eye of Henrietta and very soon we will be offering Teas Coffees etc, and the gardens are looking fantastic with great work done by our grounds dept.
Weather permitting the 1st Parklive will be on in Kimberley Park on Sunday 27th and hope that everyone will enjoy the music, but please remember social distancing
There has been a big rise in covid cases in Falmouth which has closed many businesses. Please remember that social distancing is the responsibility of each and every one of us, and unless this is taken seriously we will end up in another lockdown that no one wants.
Stay safe.
