In a regular feature, Mayor Steve Eva and Deputy Cllr Kirstie Edwards provide an update on the things going on at the Town Council.
Both mayors will be addressing the community weekly writing about what they have been up to, their committees/meetings, and any issues/news affecting residents in the town.
This is what the pair had to say about the events over the past week and going forward...
Cllr Kirstie Edwards - Deputy Mayor
What a beautiful and busy week it's been in our lovely town. I've had a work experience student shadowing me all week (my daughter) and we have experienced the whole raft of Mayoral duties, from meetings with the police, officers, and support services, moaning about massive buses and boats, to attending an art gallery installation opening and delivering almost 2000 covid tests.
We also had the awesome news that there is yet another two drop-in clinics for vaccines one on Tuesday 9-1 at the health centre and one on Friday 10-5:30 on the moor. Our local levels are still extremely high so please do get a jab on these days if you haven't already.
The town has been BUSY, like super busy and I want to take a moment to shout out to all the folks working long hours in this lovely weather, dealing with customers whilst being short-staffed. You are our heroes and we all thank you for being the face of Falmouth and cracking on.
I ended the week by joining Georgia's Voice for a session, a chat, and a beach clean on a warm Swanpool evening.
This local charity is our Mayors charity this year, but more than that, it's personal for our family, G is hugely missed by my daughters and me and it's been a privilege to support the work that Sophie, Georgia's mum is doing. Their shop is opening soon and we are sure it will be a huge success.
I was grateful to be able to share my own story with the girls and hopefully empower them to not feel like anything is ever too far out of reach.
I have struggled personally behind the smile and by sharing my own fears and anxieties, I hope it will normalise asking for help.
As I said online and to the girls, my metaphorical door is always open - we are blessed with a strong community of support services and I want every single resident to feel heard, understood, and that they matter.
Because you do to me.
Enjoy the sunshine, stay safe and be kind
Mayor Steve Eva
This has been a weird week where not a lot has been completed, but plenty going on behind the scenes.
At Finance & General, the Council supported me in maintaining the wearing of Face masks and also the Hand sanitizer when entering Council Buildings.
I have had two walk abouts this week and have noticed the number of people in town has risen hugely and totally agree with the Deputy Mayor, in her comments on the open top bus driving through a pedestrian area.
The Town Council has had its share of Staff having to isolate leaving us short on numbers along with many other businesses. Falmouth Week, I believe, is now complete with the list of those performing but will leave this to the Town Manager to release next week.
Covid numbers are up again and with the Government opening up on Monday each and everyone has a responsibility to do their bit to keep people safe.
Please maintain, Hand - Face - Space, and Ventilation.
