In a regular feature, Mayor Steve Eva provides an update on the things going on at the Town Council.
This is what Steve Eva had to say about the events over the past week and going forward...
This past week has been a challenge from start to finish starting with the travellers pitch on the fields at Dracaena playing fields which finally saw them move on after the bailiffs turned up with tow trucks on Friday morning.
This was a situation we did not need but reminded us that we need to secure our spaces better and be better prepared in the future
We have also seen another rise in covid numbers mainly with the younger generation.
Once again the mobile vaccination centre ran on Saturday at Church Corner and gave out a large number of vaccines but we need to take responsibility for keeping ourselves and others safe by following the Government information given.
This week I have visited Launceston to join the Mayor who has taken over and managed to meet up with other Mayors to talk about issues that we all share.
I was also invited onboard a tall ship on Tuesday evening which was an experience as it was cold and breezy but still enjoyable.
Had a couple of walkabouts and it seems the town is as busy as the last few weeks but hopefully, we will see reduced numbers soon which will hopefully take pressure off the hospital which is running above capacity and taking a toll on the NHS Staff.
This is more evidence that we need a second main hospital in Cornwall and the bed closures that have taken place over the last few weeks need to be reversed.
This Saturday saw the first wedding reception at the Princess Pavilion since the Town Council took control and I was there while the room was being set up and it looked great, congratulations to Michelle and Dougie on their marriage.
Sea Sunday will take place on Sunday 19th Sept at the KCM Church and will be the first proper Civic Event since Lockdown and will see numbers controlled to ensure people's safety as Covid is still here and will be for a long time to come.
Just to return to my comments on the pressures on our NHS it is certain that the staycations are here to stay and the people of Cornwall continue to have operations cancelled because of pressures from holidaymakers all year round and this can not be right.
There is no blame on our Nurses and Doctors but the residents of Cornwall deserve an NHS Service fit for purpose which at present it is not.
