After a lengthy wait, the transfer of the Princess Pavilion has been completed to Falmouth Town Council.
There were some delays over the transfer after some legal issues but now things look to be moving, as revealed in an exclusive interview with Nub News by Falmouth Mayor Steve Eva.
Steve Eva signed the transfer papers last Thursday with the Town Council taking over possession of the pavilion on Friday (21st).
The Mayor went up to look around the place and it became quite evident there is a "lot of work to be done" before it can open completely.
What's the schedule? Steve Eva told Nub News:
- There are plans to open the outside toilets this week.
- The first week of June will see a facility where people can buy coffees, teas, and cakes.
- At the end of June/early July, there are plans to invite local groups in to put on some shows (restricted on numbers) unless there are any further announcements from the government.
- Swamp Circus is looking to be the first production that will be held back at the pavilion.
Steve Eva added:
"The equipment hasn't been used (in the kitchen) for over 15 months so need to bring people in to check everything over.
"It is quite evident that the whole site has been neglected over the last 15 months, it is typical that when you have a house you leave empty you have to come and do a lot of work.
"By the time we have done that and by the end of the summer we will hopefully have a facility that people of Falmouth can be proud of."
Reacting to the news of the transfer, Sean who is a member of the Friends of Princess Pavilion Group, added:
"When I started the petition last year to free the Princess Pavilion gardens, during the lockdown, I dared to dream that one day the entire Princess Pavilion site would be devolved from Cornwall Council to the people of Falmouth to run.
"As we witnessed £6 million of our money being handed to GLL, the Cornwall Council operators of the Princess Pavilions, and GLL not even being able to open a gate for the people of Falmouth I knew things had to change. What I once dared to dream is now a reality and to say I am happy would be an understatement."
