'I hope it makes people smile': Memorial Tree goes up in Penryn for the community

A tree has been put up in Penryn encouraging residents to come and remember their loved ones this Christmas.

The Winsper Memorial Tree based at Glebe Cemetery is for the whole town to come and put a decoration up.

Organised by Paige Winsper, with help from Pete Birkett, and Lee Alway.

Speaking to Nub News Paige said she hopes the tree will put a smile on people's faces.

Paige said:

"I always bring flowers up because we have a few family members at Glebe. I missed them a lot this Christmas.

"I saw a post where someone had wished my brother (Josh) Merry Christmas, so I thought instead of just one person why don't we do something for everyone who comes to or has someone at Glebe. It also gives something back to the town as well."

It started with a small idea before putting some feelers out on social media - the tree was kindly donated by Lee Alway.

Paige added:

"It has come together quite nicely. It was just a small idea that has grown into reality. Anybody can come up here, you don't even need to have anyone in the cemetery. If your loved one was from Penryn or you've got a friend you can just come and put something on the tree. Hopefully, it makes you smile like it made me smile."

The tree will remain at the cemetery until January.
