Truro and Falmouth's MP Cherilyn Mackrory has praised the impact of the G7 Summit in Cornwall.

Cherilyn said it was a "huge success" in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Following the summit, Cherilyn Mackrory said in a statement:

"It was such an honour and privilege to welcome the world leaders to God's own country, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put Cornwall in the world's spotlight as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"A major theme of this G7 summit was about making our world more sustainable and we are on the brink of something great– the start of a clean, green industrial revolution with Cornwall steaming ahead.

"This weekend we showcased the very best of Cornwall and what exceptional hosts we are, providing lasting memories for the leaders, now we need a lasting legacy, and I was delighted to see our Prime Minister's announcement of millions of pounds of funding for Cornwall to achieve just that.

"A massive thank you to our police for keeping everyone safe and to all protesters for protesting peacefully and ensuring their voices were heard effectively.

"In our constituency, while we hosted the world's media in Falmouth, Cornwall House showed off the best green and innovative businesses in Cornwall - in my view the future of the industry in our county. From sourcing lithium to generating geothermal energy, and floating off-shore wind, Cornwall's natural geography lends us to be at the heart of green industry that can inspire a generation globally.

"We also saw the Port of Falmouth really shine, with the world's third-largest natural harbour, this can be our gateway to the Atlantic and the natural hub of a new blue and green economy as a world-leading, green port.

"I look forward to working with the Government and Cornwall's people and businesses to ensure the legacy of G7 is something tangible that we can all look back on with pride.

"I am sure the leaders left our shores and returned to their countries inspired, energised and exhilarated, taking a little bit of what makes our Cornwall so special back with them."
