A wooden garden ornament has been returned today as the community rallied behind a Mabe resident to help locate it.

The hand-carved wooden Heron went missing last week and Denise Davey issued an appeal in a Mabe community group reading:

"Has anyone spotted this wooden carving of a heron? He went missing from our front garden sometime last week. As my husband carved him with love he has no monetary value to anyone but us."

The post was shared over 150 times by residents in Mabe and the surrounding area.

This morning the Heron was returned with a note attached reading, "been on holiday."

Denise believes it was the post being shared so many times that brought the Heron back.

"It has really restored our faith in the goodness of people," Denise added.
