Penryn Rugby Club has paid tribute to former coach and vice-chairman Glyn Tedstone who has died aged 74.

Glyn was born on September 6th 1946 in Caerleon, Wales. A very proud Welshman, he moved with his wife Sharon and daughter Rachel to Falmouth in March 1986 to manage projects for the YMCA.

His work with the YMCA led to him being awarded a MBE on 17th June 1995. Glyn joined Penryn RFC when his son Gareth joined the mini/juniors in the 1993/94 season.

In a tribute, Penryn RFC wrote:

"Glyn became chairman of the mini/junior section helping to run and organise the whole mini/junior section tours of Wales and Bristol on numerous seasons playing fixtures against Blackwood RFC Glyn's hometown club.

"Glyn went on to become involved with the senior side at Penryn as Vice Chairman of the club while continuing to help coach and manage Gareth's age group.

"In the 2000/2001 season, Glyn told the players who at that age were under 13's if they stayed together until colts they would have a free tour to South Africa. August 2004 the team went on a 12-day tour to South Africa a tour that will live long in the hearts and minds of all involved.

"Glyn alongside others helped fundraise the entire amount needed to fund the tour and all the players kit. Glyn's ultimate aim was to keep 'his' boys playing rugby, of which 11 of that team have gone onto represent the 1st XV at Penryn, including his son and current 1st team coach and head of colts Gareth.

"Glyn was always incredibly proud of the boys and always enjoyed his time with them travelling the country on away games. Glyn often joked he still felt 27 even though he was in his elder years.

"In April 2017 aged 70 Glyn made his only senior appearance for Penryn coming off the bench at half time against touring side Alresford RFC, so he could play alongside his son."

"Glyn held Penryn RFC very close to his heart and was extremely proud and optimistic about the future of the club. He always said with rugby you can walk into any club around the world and have a friend, and he lived his life that way.

"Glyn's wife Sharon, daughters Anne and Rachel, son Gareth and grandchildren Lydia, Ethan, and Iris are all very grateful for the kind support the club showed on Saturday."
