Training is starting up again at Falmouth RFC as lockdown continues to ease in all areas of the community.

Thursday 23rd July at 7pm will mark the first training session since the club postponed their regular schedule due to the pandemic four months ago.

Falmouth RFC has had a difficult time during lockdown due to loss of revenue, but they remain hopeful for the future.

Graham Whitmore, Director of Rugby, told Nub News:

"These have been challenging times for us at Falmouth and indeed all community-based sports clubs, who have suffered from loss of revenue due to closure of clubhouses for such a long period but the recent easing of restrictions.

"Opening of clubhouses and return to training are the first small steps forward to recovery."

The club has said that training will look different from what they're used to as new procedures set in place by England Rugby must be adhered to.

Graham said:

"We are delighted to resume training and hope for the club to return to some form of normality going forward, although the training landscape will look very different from what we have been used to.

"It is nearly four months since we were last together as a group, although we had a very entertaining awards night on Zoom a few weeks ago that was well attended.

"I know the lads are keen to meet up again, in light of social distancing rules and strict guidelines set out by England Rugby."

The new procedures are detailed to clubs in the 'England Rugby Return to Play Road Map'.

• Limited to small group training of 6 individuals, including a coach, in a space equating to a quarter of the pitch - limiting numbers to 24 on a pitch.

• Social distancing is required at all times, with limited sharing of equipment and strict hygiene measures being observed.

"Our focus will initially be on physical conditioning work with some limited opportunities for skill development, although no face to face or contact activities are allowed," Graham said.

"There is a degree of uncertainty amongst clubs at our level as to when an adapted format of the league season will start, with a possibility it may be at any time between September and January."
