Danny Smith, a Taxi Driver from Liskeard, Cornwall, shared a video of himself singing the Garth Brooks song "The River" after he heard the terrible news about the fishing disaster which resulted in two young lives being lost.

Danny posted it as a tribute and he had no idea that the video would go viral.

After seeing this, Stuart Mann who runs Evotek Marine, a Falmouth business in the Marine Sector, got in contact with Folk Singer Will Keating, who had himself dedicated a live stream tribute to the lives lost at sea on the Voices of the Borough Facebook page.

Stuart wondered about the possibility of recording the song and releasing it to raise money for the Fisherman's Mission in Brixham.

Within a week, more businesses from the Marine Sector across Britain got onboard including John Clark Fishing, Cornish Crab Co and A Passion for Seafood. Will then commissioned Cube Recording Studios in Cornwall who produced the backing track a couple of days later.

On Tuesday 1st of December, Will and Danny met for the first time and recorded Danny's lead vocal and some backing vocals. The track will then be mixed and mastered ready for release.

Will explained:

"We have all been touched by the loss of life of these two young men and the bravery shown by Dave the Skipper who managed to survive.

"Danny's voice translates perfectly those feelings within, and this track will be a symbol of our continued support to those families that are going through hell at the moment."

The single called "The River" will be released on Saturday at 6:14 to co-inside with the shining lights event being held in Brixham and all over the world. The timing is relevant as it mirrors the time that the distress signal was received from Joanna C.

All proceeds from the downloaded single will go to the Fishermans Mission who provide a lifeline of welfare and support to fishermen and their families.
