This is a bigger problem that needs sorting, local swimmer says about the ongoing issues at Gylly Beach

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

A keen local swimmer has told Nub News ongoing littering and antisocial behaviour at Gyllynvase Beach is becoming a serious problem.

There have been constant reports of antisocial behaviour and littering over the bank holiday at Gylly with issues such as fires, broken glass and even human waste being left at the beach.

Getting in touch with Nub News, a local swimmer said this problem needs attention before it escalates any further.

The swimmer told Nub News:

"It is not just a small problem, this is huge and it is happening at every beach every day it's not about getting more litter pickers to pick it up and make the beaches look all nice and clean again just for it to happen again, it's a bigger problem that needs sorting."

Members of the Town Council, Biffa staff and local residents have all been working together to try and clean up over the bank holiday.

"This is not acceptable," Plastic Free Falmouth said as they revealed just how much waste had been picked up just this morning (5th):

33 fire pits

48 nails

34 bottle lids

14 large pieces of sharp glass

Hundreds of cigarettes butts and small glass fragments

Falmouth Town Council will be approached for further comment.
