Popular Asian Street eatery KinnAsia, based on Arwenack Street reopened for takeaway this week, taking steps into what the establishment is calling "The New Normal."

Nub News sat down with owner Niparat Chellow Lhong to discuss how the restaurant plans to move forward now lockdown restrictions have eased on the hospitality industry.

Niparat told Nub News:

"I am excited about reopening, I was a little bit reluctant at the beginning when I heard the lockdown was going to be eased.

"I was worried about health and safety side of things and just want to make sure we won't hit a second wave.

"My main concern is how much I can offer people and it is quite a lot of things to think about.

"I think this will be around for quite a while, people don't really know what the new normal is because there isn't really specific."

Niparat explained the differences between the UK and her homeland of Thailand, saying the two have totally different restrictions.

She continued:

"Thailand is really into a system, in my hometown people don't really go in a group as normally like people do here.

"You go into a department store in Thailand and there is disinfectant spray, there is a robot trying to guide you through telling you what to do, washing your hands and there are guard screens, the restaurants are smaller numbers.

"People just don't know what to do I think but we need to find a way to get through this."

The restaurant will start by doing takeaway only (two customers in at a time) and will phase into letting customers sit down.

To stop cross contamination the restaurant will not be using normal crockery, food will be served with single-use cutlery and containers.

There is a food counter being set up in the daytime, a new feature that KinnAsia has never tried before. Customers will be able to pick their food and sit (socially distanced) in the restaurant.

When customers are allowed to sit down in the restaurant there will be a track and trace system in place.

KinnAsia will be sitting customers from Tuesday next week (14th) with a limited number at one time to ensure social distancing.

There will also be a £5 lunchtime deal on offer from 11am to 2pm.
