A new baby and toddler clothes shop in Penryn is hoping to become more than just retail - offering a space for parents to grab a coffee, relax, and socialise.
Lily Tots, located on Higher Market Street, is owned by Diane Edwards - who has a long history working in retail.
The shop offers a range of new and pre-loved clothes for babies and toddlers 0-6 years, alongside toys, games, and other items. There is a key emphasis on reusing and recycling - if your child has grown out of clothes Lily Tots will buy them.
Diane came up with the idea after her daughter made a comment about the amount of baby clothes she had, suggesting they could "open a shop".
The plans have been in the works for almost two years, after delays due to the covid pandemic, and finding the right space to work from.
Diane told Nub News:
"We always wanted it to be this social place rather than just a shop, we want parents to come in and sit down, we have got a reading corner. We are doing a book swap, if you have a book that you don't want you can bring it in and swap it for another one. Parents can come in and make themselves a cup of tea, coffee, children can play.
"Once we are established we will be holding some workshops on first aid, breastfeeding for new mums, weaning. We want everyone to just feel familiar and comfortable in this place."
Items for babies and toddlers can often be quite expensive - but Lily Tots is offering high street brands at a much-discounted price.
"We are hoping to have price points for all budgets - the reason why we are selling a mix of new and pre-loved items," Diane commented.
She added:
"Just come and see us, because we really want this to be a place where you can sit down and meet someone for a coffee. We want it to be a drop-in, it is not just about buying something (you don't have to buy something). We are about being somewhere for the community."
Lily Tots is open 10am-4pm Tuesday to Saturday.
