West Cornwall Wildlife Rescue and Rehab group has called for action into wildlife and animal cruelty following the brutal attack on a Herring Gull in Falmouth.

Last week on Princess Pier a Herring Gull was attacked and died of its injuries.

A local musician threw an object at a Herring Gull perched on the rails of the pier.

The impact made a crunch sound as it hit the young Gull on its wing and it ended up struggling in the harbour.

The incident was witnessed by one of the groups volunteers.

A spokesperson for the volunteer organisation said:

"Our volunteer vet attended and together they managed to retrieve the gull, sadly as you can see the injury was extensive and the poor bird could not be saved.

"The decision was made to euthanise the injured Gull, the only way to prevent further suffering.

"There's has been a lot of conjecture from people who know this musician, who like many close to others who commit crimes, just can not believe his actions. Sadly he has been seen since in the same location hitting out at the Gulls.

"Herring Gulls are a red-listed conservation species. Cruelty to any animals is illegal. This matter is now in the Wildlife Crimes Police Officers hands."

The group has called for action from the police to act on the crimes.
