Yesterday Falmouth and Penryn residents found out what tier they would be in ahead of the end of lockdown on the 2nd December.

Cornwall is only one of only three areas in the country to be placed in tier 1, announced by Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

Reacting to the news, Cornwall Councillor for Falmouth Smithick Jayne Kirkham praised the work of those in the county to be able to re-open in a Tier 1 environment.

Jayne Kirkham said:

"I am very pleased that the hard work of people in Cornwall and our Public Health Team to keep our infection rates low has been recognised by our being one of the few places to re-open as Tier 1. It will give our workers and businesses a chance to recover as we head towards Christmas.

"I have some concern that this may lead to increased risk if too many people travel during this period and would ask that people behave sensibly.

"We are so close to a vaccine now that exercising caution for what is likely to be a relatively short period is of paramount importance."

Despite being in Tier One Cornwall Council has urged people to continue following the guidelines, "now is not the time to relax, we need to be on our guard more than ever before, if we are to remain in this position," they said.

The good news is that we will be seeing our pubs, cafes and restaurants open once again, and if you are unsure of the guidelines you can find them here.
