This summer Cornwall will play host to world leaders and media in the 2021 G7 summit.

The event will host world leaders at Carbis Bay from June 11th to 13th, with neighbouring St Ives and other sites in Cornwall, Falmouth, hosting international delegates and media.

Despite the biggest operation in Devon and Cornwall Police history, some residents in Cornwall are already making plans to protest at the G7 - how will it be policed?

In a recent G7 newsletter Devon and Cornwall Police said they are expecting protests and working with organisers to make sure they are peaceful.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police added:

"We expect protest activity linked to the G7 Summit. Police Protest Liaison Teams are linking in with organisers to support this important human right by facilitating peaceful and lawful protest whilst minimising disruption to the public."

"Devon and Cornwall Police officers retain command and control of all elements of the policing operation. We will be drawing on skills and resources from other forces across the country, but local people can expect visiting officers to uphold the approachable community policing style they have come to expect from their local officers.

"Careful planning is ongoing to minimise any risk of increased transmission of COVID-19 during the G7 Summit. This includes a comprehensive testing programme for all officers and staff deployed at the event as well as working in operational 'bubbles'."
